We have 27 brood jennets that we breed approxiamately every two years or less. Their heights range from 28¾" to 33¼" with an average height of less than 31½". We have 12 young jennets that will not be bred until they are close to 4 years of age. As these young jennets are added to our breeding program we will be offering some of our other jennets for sale to keep our herd at a manageable number. We want to always be able to give each of our donkeys the individual attention that they so crave. Some of these jennets may be offered with their new foals at their sides.

We purchased Piper from the 2007 Heart of American Miniature Donkey Sale and we couldn't be more pleased with her. We had been looking high and low for the perfect gray no light point jennet forever. She was consigned by Tracy Billing at Rock'n NT Ranch in Buffalo, Missouri. She is stocky and tiny and has the most pleasing personality. We have measured her several times since we have owned her and she has measured exactly 29¾" every time.

We are very pleased to announce that Raven's Fire has now joined our herd of brood jennets. Thank you to Bob and Sandy Dorris for allowing her to become part of our lives.  Raven rejected her first foal on Christmas Day last year but we think she will be a fine mom the next time around.  Raven is a gorgeous true black jennet without even a hint of a cross. Now this girl has it all...style, class, conformation, rich sorrel color, and that adoring personality. She is one of our most stocky jennets. Bridget won first in Halter Jennets and first in the Solid Color Class out of 9 entries at the Hohenwald County Fair when owned by Wit's End Farm. Photos above were taken one day after foaling in September 2008.

Bridget and her best friend, Strawberry, were hospitalized with botulism poisoning on 2/9/10. Sadly we lost Strawberry and her red jennet foal was stillborn by c-section. Bridget has been in the hospital valiantly fighting for her life for two weeks now. She is now over the botulism but she has developed hyperlipidemia. On 2/22/10 at 2:15am she delivered her foal under vet supervision. Bridget is still so sick that she can hardly think of her foal but, so far, she is accepting him and making attempts to let him nurse after much intervention. Please continue to pray for a full recovery for Bridget and that her new little precious foal, nicknamed Mister Big, will be just fine too. I intend to post an entire update about the signs of botulism and what you can do to save your donkey. Right now our first priority is getting these two home healthy and safe. Thank you to all that are praying for their recovery. A special thank you to our personal vet, Dr. Greg Harris, and to all the vets at Tennnessee Equine Hospital and especially to Dr. Mat Povlovich and Dr. Jessica DeLisle. Another big 'thank you' to Sandy Dorris who spent the entire day with me at the vets yesterday. Your support was so greatly appreciated. Video is on the newborn page!

Update! Bridget and ner new foal, Big Money, are now home from the vets. Bridget does not have enough milk so we are feeding Mister Big every two hours around the clock. You can help us watch them on our barn cam. Forgive us if we have not answered your emails. We are too exhausted to do anything but care for our donkeys. Please continue to pray for Bridget and Big to have a complete recovery!

Update!! 3/10/10: Bridget and Mister Big Money appear to have made a complete recovery! Thank you to everyone for your prayers!! But especially....Praise the Lord!!

Picabo was owned by our mentors, Ed & Linda Trimnell of Windcrest Acres, since she was a young foal and Linda considered her to be her best producing jennet. When Windcrest Acres went out of business due to health reasons Picabo was sold to Kathy Loudamy at K & K Ranch. Picabo produced many more champions while owned by Kathy and she would have never parted with her except that she was the hardest donkey to catch she had ever encountered. Since Kathy is usually always alone at the barn she offered her to me since my husband is retired and we do all of our donkey chores together. I have admired Picabo and her offspring thoughout all the years I have been involved in donkeys and I jumped at the chance to own such a fantastic little spotted donkey. I thought I would have no trouble training Miss Picabo to easily be caught.

Day one of owning her: I kept her in a stall and small paddock and gave her a treat every time I passed her but only if she would allow me to put the halter on her. I must have repeated this lesson no less than 50 times that day. Late that afternoon I turned Picabo out in a larger pasture since I was going to be gone all the next day. About an hour later I went to her pasture just to see if I could catch her. Well....... she ran like the wind  before I even got within 30' of her!! She was so far away that she could not have heard me saying 'cookie, cookie' if I had used a megaphone. A cowboy with a 500' rope could not have lassoed her!! I called Kathy and told her I wanted my money back. Kathy promptly told me that Picabo was my 'diet donkey' and she insisted I keep her so that I would be forced to lose weight. At this rate I should weigh about 100 lbs by this time next year. If you are ever this way please stop by for a visit and help me catch Miss Boo so I can worm her and do her little hooves occasionally. All help will be so appreciated. Just consider visiting Picabo and me instead of going to the gym. I will keep you posted on the continuing saga of  "Catch Me If You Can".

"Boo" has retained her great conformation through nine foals and due to her refusal to be caught easily. She is square and drafty and she is a long time producer of show quality donkeys with her same outstanding build.

Glorianna has been one of our very best producing jennets. If we had to do it all over again we would have retained every single one of her foals for our herd. We fell in love with Stardance when we were in Texas visiting Itsy Bitsy Burro Co and we just had to have her. She is just as sweet as she is beautiful! Stardance stays black all year round. She doesn't turn brown even when left out in the sun! The photos above were taken in November 2011, straight out of the pasture in her shaggy winter coat.  She is black as coal in the summertime or when body clipped. She is measuring well under 30.5" tall as well! We will take new photos and videos next spring after we body clip her.

We purchased Puzzles from Itsy Bitsy Burro Co shortly after her birth. Jerry and Tonnie delivered her to us during the 2008 Great Celebration Mule & Donkey Show held July 10th thru 12th. Jerry showed her in the NMDA foal class on Thursday and won 2nd place showing against over 10 other entries. The Wilrich's had a dog show that Saturday and had to leave so Joe showed Puzzles in the National ACOSA class and won 2nd in the Two and Under Jennet class and then went on to win Reserve National Champion Spotted Jennet her second time ever in a show ring and the first time shown by Joe. We are so very proud of our new little jennet! It was quite an accomplishment for a six month old baby.

Sailor is stocky, correct, and so very, very tiny! She measures less than 31" tall every time we measure her. Sailor is a full sister to Bedazzled and Ma Bell. 

Sailor is home from Kathy's after three months of intensive training. She is now a perfect little lady and will trot beside you on command, side pass, back, etc. Money well spent. Sailor was shown at two shows while she was away and she placed 5th and 4th in her two classes and was a perfect little lady. We are very proud of our little Sailor. Thank you, Kathy, for a job well done! Photos above were taken on October 14th, 2008. Didn't Kathy do a great job of getting Sailor into show condition! Sailor did not really 'get into' being a show donkey. She is too laid back. You wouldn't believe how hard it was to get her ears and head up for her new photos. That's ok...she can live out her life here being nothing but a mom to her beautiful babies! Sailor is bff with Ramona.

Ch Ching's name means excellent, fantastic, and is believed to come from the sound falling coins make. Her color is a dark brown/roan (near black) with white spots. She has two dark eyes with eyeliner all around. Ch Ching was sold as a yearling to my great friend, Jane Savage, at Flight of Fancy Miniatures in New Hampshire. We just recentely purchased her back when Jane sadly retired from the miniature donkey business so she could travel. This jennet is a full sister to Half Ass Acres Mojave who appeared on the cover of Asset Magazine one summer! She is also a full sister to Half Ass Acres Splish Splash and a half sister to HHAA Hula Hoop, HHAA Presto and HHAA Pajama Girl.

Ch Ching will be bred to HHAA Black 'n' Blue (Bruise), in the spring of 2012. We have plenty of donkeys already bred for next year so we are going to wait to bred Ch Ching.

Amber Rose is a beautiful retired brood jennet that has not had a foal since 2006. Amber has the kind of head we adore on a donkey...short and wide. Since she has come to live at Half Ass Acres we have discovered she has a hormone problem. She smells like she is in season when she is not and it causes a jack to chase her for no reason. She is now retired to our jennet pasture and we will not allow a jack to torture her anymore.  We may attempt to hand bred her later this year and see if we can get her in foal. If not, she can live a life of ease here at Half Ass Acres. Thank you to Dena Wilson for handling Amber for her photo session.

10/29/10: Update! Amber has been vet checked to be at least six months safe in foal!! She was hand bred to Windcrest Firefly from 4/4/10 thru 4/09/10. She delivered a gorgeous dark red jennet on 5/01/11. Praise the Lord for answered prayers!! Photos above were taken on May 6th, 2011, five days after foaling her 8th foal!

I am expecting to see a change in her milk any day now! Valerie's teats will engorge more towards the bottom and become firmer but she is very, very close.

	Valerie's teats have gone down this morning from yesterday...this is very common.

Valerie's bag is not round on the bottom and her teats are not fully engorged towards the end of them yet.  She has regressed from a couple of days ago...this is normal.	Valerie's bag  has not changed much from three days ago.  Looks like she is going to hold out until about three days before the next full moon!

Valerie's  teats are getting longer and more engorged from top to bottom-more cylinder shaped instead of cone shaped.	Valerie's  has all the signs of foaling ...white milk, teats pointing east/west ever so slightly, and her bag is round on the bottom. Update! Valerie foaled 1 ¾ hours after this photo was taken!

Notice wax on end of teats..teats pointing east/west ever so slightly from the last photo..bag completely rounded on the bottom.		Cloudy to slightly 2% milk. Shimmy foaled 3 hours and 52 minutes after I took this photo but our most common time frame is 20 hours.

Notice how her teats are not engorged, pointing straight down, and bag is flat on the bottom as if it was sitting on a table.		Notice how her teats are engorged, are pointing slightly east/west now, and bag is round on the bottom as if it was a balloon filled with water.

As you can see the change is very slight and sometimes hard to notice unless you are very experienced or take photos and carefully compare them. This is how we learned how to watch for the changes that let us know when our jennets are close to foaling. Boo's foal was born on 9/6 @ 4:19am.

Sunflower started her bag on August 18th, 2009. She was hand bred to Pepper on September 1st, 2008, and then left with him for the rest of the summer.

Update 9/10/09! Sunflower now has white milk as of 8am.

9/11/09 @ 00:24 dark jennet with no light points was born approx. 16 hours after she had white milk.
